What families have shared with us

PK

Pattaraporn Kanjana

Bangkok, TH

We booked the conversation preparation session before a family meeting that had been put off for too long. The guide gave us a structure to follow, which stopped things from going in circles the way they usually do. It is not a magic solution, but having a framework helped us stay calm and hear each other out properly.

I found the Document Organization Workshop genuinely useful. My wife and I had been living here for seven years and our papers were in a state — a mix of Thai and UK documents, digital and physical, none of it properly sorted. The workshop was methodical without being overwhelming. We left with a folder system that actually reflects how our household works. I would have appreciated a slightly longer session, but the material was solid.

The coordination package helped our family agree on things we had been dancing around for months. What I valued most was that the facilitator was clear about what Hearthward does and does not do — they pointed us toward a solicitor for the parts that needed formal help. That honesty made me trust the rest of the session more.

We were going through a significant transition and needed to sort both the practical and communication sides of things. The conversation preparation session gave us a starting point. Small, unassuming — and more useful than I expected. The printed guide is still on our kitchen table three weeks later.

The document workshop was practical and calm. The facilitator did not rush anyone, and the sorting system in the printed checklist is sensible — I have adapted it a bit for our household. It also prompted us to get some documents officially translated, which we had been putting off. Good value for the time it saved us.

We used the Coordination and Briefing Package during a period when our household was in a fair bit of flux. The written plan that came out of it gave everyone in our family — across two different cities — the same reference point. It saved a lot of back-and-forth. Very decent experience overall.

Case Studies

Three household journeys in detail

Case 01 · Family Conversation Preparation

The Situation

A Thai family with three adult children needed to discuss arrangements for an ageing parent. Previous attempts had ended inconclusively, with some family members feeling they had not been heard. The family had been putting the conversation off for several months.

What Hearthward Did

The family booked a 90-minute Conversation Preparation session. The facilitator worked through the session framework with all three children and a parent present. Each person had a defined time to speak. The printed conversation guide was adapted in the session to fit their particular topics.

Outcome

The family left with a clear set of agreed next steps written in the conversation guide. They subsequently sought formal advice from a solicitor — something they had known was needed but had not been able to reach together. The session took 10 weeks off an ongoing impasse.

"We had not managed to have this conversation as a family for almost a year. The structure helped us stay civil. That was the main thing we needed."

Case 02 · Document Organization Workshop

The Situation

An expatriate couple in their late 40s had accumulated seven years of Thai and UK paperwork — visa records, property documents, insurance policies, and pension correspondence — none of it organized or easily accessible. A change in their circumstances made getting this in order urgent.

What Hearthward Did

They attended the half-day Document Organization Workshop, bringing a carrier bag of unsorted documents. The workshop introduced a sorting framework, walked through common document categories for households in Thailand, and helped them begin labelling their own materials during the session.

Outcome

By the end of the workshop, roughly 70% of their documents had been sorted into the provided folders. The checklist helped them identify several documents that needed to be renewed or formally translated. They completed the sorting at home over the following two weekends.

"I did not expect to feel as settled as I did at the end of the workshop. We still had work to do at home, but at least we knew what it was."

Case 03 · Family Coordination & Briefing Package

The Situation

A household of five — two parents and three adult children living in different parts of the city — were working through a family transition where consistent communication and shared record-keeping were essential. Each person had a slightly different understanding of the situation and a different preference for how to manage it.

What Hearthward Did

Hearthward ran three structured meetings across two weeks: an opening meeting to establish shared ground, a working session to map communication preferences and document responsibilities, and a final meeting to review and sign off on the written plan. Each member contributed to the coordination document.

Outcome

The family left the process with a written coordination plan and individual briefing sheets. Three months later, they reported that the plan was still being referenced and that misunderstandings had reduced noticeably. They also engaged a formal professional for one aspect of the transition that fell outside Hearthward's scope.

"Having a written document that everyone signed meant there was a shared reference. That alone changed the conversations we had in the months after."
